The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the national standards body of India, established under the BIS Act 1986 and functioning under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government of India. BIS is responsible for the development and implementation of national standards to ensure quality, safety, and reliability of products and services. It also provides certification to manufacturers and laboratories through various schemes such as ISI mark and Hallmark. BIS plays a vital role in consumer protection, industrial development, and export promotion.
