

Central Bank of India (CBI) is a public sector bank headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Established on 21 December 1911 by Sir Sorabji Pochkhanawala, it was the first Indian commercial bank that was wholly owned and managed by Indians. The bank offers a wide range of financial services including retail banking, corporate banking, and treasury operations. As of June 2024, Central Bank of India operates over 4,600 branches and more than 3,600 ATMs across India, serving millions of customers. The bank is majority-owned by the Government of India, holding a 93.08% stake. It has played a significant role in India's banking history, including being one of the first banks to issue credit cards in collaboration with Visa in 1980. The bank continues to be a key player in India's financial sector, focusing on inclusive banking and digital transformation.
