The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is India’s statutory regulatory authority for the securities market, established in 1988 and granted statutory status in 1992 under the SEBI Act. Operating under the Ministry of Finance, SEBI’s mandate is to protect investors’ interests, promote market development, and regulate intermediaries such as stock exchanges, brokers, mutual funds, and depositories. It possesses quasi-legislative, quasi-judicial, and quasi-executive powers to ensure transparent, fair, and efficient capital markets.
