Prasar Bharati is India's state-owned public broadcaster, established as a statutory autonomous body under the Prasar Bharati Act, 1990. It came into existence on 23 November 1997. Headquartered in New Delhi, Prasar Bharati comprises two main divisions: Doordarshan (DD), the television network, and All India Radio (AIR), the radio network. These entities were previously media units under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting before being merged into Prasar Bharati to grant them operational autonomy. The organization is tasked with providing a fair and balanced flow of information on matters of public interest, free from opinion or bias. Prasar Bharati operates across various platforms, including terrestrial, satellite, and digital media, and serves as a vital instrument for public service broadcasting in India.
