NTPC Limited, formerly known as National Thermal Power Corporation, is India's largest power generation company. Established in 1975, NTPC is a Maharatna Central Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Power, Government of India. Headquartered in New Delhi, the company is involved in the generation and sale of electricity to state-owned power distribution companies and State Electricity Boards in India. NTPC's operations encompass the entire value chain of the power generation business, including coal-based thermal power, gas-based power, hydroelectric power, and renewable energy sources like solar and wind. As of 2025, NTPC has an installed capacity of over 80 GW, contributing approximately 25% of India's total power generation. The company is also expanding into nuclear energy, with plans to develop small modular reactors and large-scale nuclear power projects. NTPC is listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and is a constituent of the BSE SENSEX and NSE NIFTY 50 indices.
