NHPC Limited, formerly National Hydroelectric Power Corporation, is a premier government-owned company under the Ministry of Power, Government of India. Established in 1975, NHPC has been tasked with planning, promoting, and executing hydropower projects across India, while expanding into renewable energy sectors like solar, wind, pumped storage, and green hydrogen. It holds Navratna status and is listed on Indian equity markets. Current operations include over 8,000 MW of installed capacity and multiple renewable energy and hydroelectric projects in development, including Subansiri Lower (2,000 MW) and Dibang (2,880 MW), along with major solar park initiatives. NHPC plays a strategic role in national energy security and green transition efforts.
