The National Water Development Agency (NWDA) is an autonomous society under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, established in July 1982. It was set up to carry out detailed studies, surveys, and investigations concerning the Peninsular Component of the National Perspective Plan for Water Resources Development. NWDA's primary objective is to promote the interlinking of rivers in India to optimize the utilization of water resources, enhance irrigation, generate hydroelectric power, and mitigate floods and droughts. The agency conducts feasibility studies, prepares Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), and coordinates with various state governments for implementing interlinking projects.
