

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is an autonomous agency under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India. Established in 1995 under the National Highways Authority of India Act, 1988, NHAI is responsible for the development, maintenance, and management of India's National Highways network. Headquartered in Dwarka, New Delhi, the authority oversees a vast network exceeding 50,000 km, playing a pivotal role in enhancing the country's road infrastructure. NHAI implements major projects like the National Highways Development Project (NHDP) and Bharatmala Pariyojana, often utilizing public–private partnership models. Additionally, NHAI has collaborated with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for satellite-based highway monitoring and has launched initiatives like the 'Harit Path' mobile app to monitor plantation along highways.
