The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is an autonomous organization under the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India. Established on 16 July 1929 as the Imperial Council of Agricultural Research, ICAR is the apex body responsible for coordinating, guiding, and managing research and education in agriculture and allied sectors, including horticulture, fisheries, and animal sciences. Headquartered in New Delhi, ICAR oversees one of the world's largest national agricultural systems, comprising 113 institutes and 74 agricultural universities across the country. The council has played a pivotal role in ushering the Green Revolution in India, enhancing food security, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. ICAR's initiatives encompass strategic research, technology development, and capacity building to address the challenges of climate change and ensure the resilience of Indian agriculture.
