Hindustan Organic Chemicals Limited (HOCL) is a central public sector undertaking established in 1960 under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India. Headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, with a major manufacturing unit in Ambalamugal, Kochi, Kerala, HOCL was founded to achieve self-reliance in the production of basic organic chemicals and reduce dependence on imports. The company specializes in the manufacture of chemicals such as phenol, acetone, nitrobenzene, aniline, nitrotoluenes, chlorobenzenes, and nitrochlorobenzenes. These chemicals serve as key inputs for industries including pharmaceuticals, pesticides, dyes, plastics, and rubber. HOCL is recognized as the second-largest producer of phenol and acetone in India. Additionally, through its subsidiary, Hindustan Fluorocarbons Limited (HFL), HOCL produces polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), a versatile engineering plastic. The company is listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE: 500449) and is majority-owned by the Government of India.
