The Department of Food and Public Distribution (DFPD) operates under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India. It is responsible for ensuring food security through the procurement, storage, movement, and distribution of food grains across the country. DFPD manages the Public Distribution System (PDS), which provides subsidized food grains to the economically weaker sections of society. The department also oversees the Food Corporation of India (FCI) and implements policies related to food grain management, sugar, and edible oils.
