

The Cochin Special Economic Zone (CSEZ) is a multi-product special economic zone located in Kakkanad, Kochi, Kerala. Established in 1984 as one of India's first Export Processing Zones, it was later converted into a Special Economic Zone in 2003. Spanning an area of 41.7 hectares, CSEZ hosts over 160 industrial units across sectors like electronics hardware, engineering, gem and jewellery, IT/ITES, agro and food processing, textiles, and plastics. These units collectively employ more than 15,000 people. The zone offers robust infrastructure, including a dedicated 25 MVA power substation, water treatment facilities, sewage processing, and on-site customs clearance. CSEZ operates under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, and is managed by the Cochin Special Economic Zone Authority (CSEZA), constituted under the Special Economic Zones Act, 2005.
