The Central Water Commission (CWC) is a premier technical organization in India in the field of water resources. Established in 1945, it functions as an attached office of the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India. The CWC is responsible for initiating, coordinating, and furthering schemes related to the control, conservation, and utilization of water resources throughout the country. Its functions encompass flood control, irrigation, navigation, drinking water supply, and hydroelectric power development. The Commission is structured into three main wings: Designs and Research (D&R), River Management (RM), and Water Planning and Projects (WP&P), each overseen by a full-time Member with the status of Ex-Officio Additional Secretary to the Government of India. The CWC also operates 14 regional organizations across India to ensure effective coordination with state governments.
