Central Forensic Science Laboratory

CFSL

The Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) is a network of premier forensic institutions under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. Established to provide scientific support to the criminal justice system, CFSLs analyze crime scene evidence and offer expert opinions in courts. There are seven CFSLs located in Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chandigarh, New Delhi, Guwahati, Bhopal, and Pune. While most laboratories operate under the Directorate of Forensic Science Services (DFSS), the CFSL in New Delhi functions under the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Each laboratory specializes in various forensic disciplines, including DNA analysis, cyber forensics, ballistics, toxicology, and questioned document examination. CFSLs also engage in research and development to advance forensic science in India.
