Selection Process for UPSC Assistant Professor Jobs

  1. 1Online Registration: Established a Universal Registration Number (URN) profile on the ORA portal; this is universal across all UPSC recruitment and has to be created only once.
  2. 2Common Application Form (CAF): Fill out the CAF, which is also common across the UPSC recruitment cycle, furnishing personal, educational, and category details.
  3. 3Post-Specific Module: Fill the fourth, post/vacancy-specific module for the exact post you are applying to within the window this notification allows.
  4. 4Eligibility screening: UPSC checks age, qualifications, and experience as of the closing date for applications.
  5. 5Shortlisting (if required): In case the number of applications is very large, UPSC shortlists on the basis of desirable qualifications, better education, more relevant experience, or by conducting a Recruitment Test.
  6. 6Recruitment Test (where applicable): held at designated centers (Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Chennai, Delhi, Dispur/Guwahati, Jaipur, Jammu, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, nagpur, Port Blair, Ranchi, and Visakhapatnam); candidates must qualify separately, at this stage, for the minimum suitability level for their category before proceeding to interview.
  7. 7Personal Interview: Shortlisted candidates are called for an interview; the category-wise minimum qualifying marks (UR-50, OBC-45, and SC/ST/PwBD-40 out of 100) apply here.
  8. 8Document Verification: To be done at the time of the interview, candidates are required to bring the printout of their online application along with original documents and self-attested copies.
  9. 9Recommendation and Appointment: The recommendation of the UPSC is forwarded to the concerned Ministry for appointment, which is made by the concerned Ministry by issuing the appointment order. Merely being called for an interview does not mean that the candidate is selected.

About the Union Public Service Commission

Beyond its well-known Civil Services Examination, UPSC also conducts recruitment by selection for specialist and technical posts across ministries and departments, typically filled through screening of applications and a personal interview, with a Recruitment Test used only where the volume of applications makes shortlisting by qualification and experience alone impractical.
