The State Bank of India (SBI) has issued the official recruitment notification for the engagement of 7,150 apprentices under the Apprenticeship Act, 1961 for the financial year 2026-27. This is a huge opportunity for the fresh graduates to get valuable corporate experience, know the functioning of the largest public sector bank of India and start their career in the banking. The online application process has been started from 19th May 2026 and the eligible candidates can apply till 8th June 2026. The candidates selected will get a monthly stipend of Rs 15000 during the 1 year training program.

SBI apprentice recruitment 2026 is a purely 1 yr training programme and does not ensure a permanent position with the bank. Marking Scheme for SBI Apprentice job exam: Correct Answer: +1 Mark Incorrect Answer (Negative Marking): Deducting $0.25$ ($1/4^{th}$) of the marks assigned to that question. Unanswered Questions: 0 Marks (No penalty). 1. General & Financial Awareness This section evaluates your grasp of daily current events alongside foundational economic and banking structures. - Banking Awareness: RBI functions & monetary policy, types of bank accounts, history of banking in India, banking terms (Repo Rate, Reverse Repo Rate, CRR, SLR, NPA), KYC norms, and financial institutions (NABARD, SEBI). - Current Affairs: National & international events, recent government schemes (finance and social welfare), summits, awards & honors, sports news, defense exercises, and key appointments. - Static GK: Capitals & Currencies, Important Days, National Parks & Wildlife Sanctuaries, Power Plants, Books and Authors, Budget & Five-Year Plans. 2. Local Language Test (Qualifying Stage) After clearing the online written test, candidates must appear for the Local Language Proficiency Test. Exemption: If you have studied the specified local language of your state in Class 10 or Class 12 and it is explicitly mentioned on your official mark sheet/certificate, you are exempted from taking this test. Assessment: If not exempted, you will be tested on your reading, writing, speaking, and understanding capabilities of the state’s regional language. As an apprentice you rotate around different desks to learn different parts of retail banking: 1. Customer Relationship Management: Assisting customers with filling account opening forms, loan applications and fixed deposit (FD) documentation. 2. Digital Banking Promotion: The manner in which walk-in customers can avail SBI’s digital services like YONO app, internet banking and ATMs 3. Data Entry & Record Keeping: Handling back office work, indexing of documents, scanning of KYC documents and cross checking of customer records in the bank’s database. 4. Cross Selling Support: Assisting the bank's marketing team in educating customers on diverse financial products, insurance schemes and mutual funds. 5. Clearing House & Ledger Support: Providing assistance to staff in cheque processing administration and maintenance of the daily inward/outward registers.

Your contract will end automatically at the end of the 12 month training period, and you will not become a permanent employee of SBI. But the experience has major advantages for your career: 1) SBI Clerk Recruitment Weightage: This is one major advantage. In the normal SBI Junior Associate (Clerk) recruitment exams, candidates who have completed their SBI Apprenticeship are usually provided relaxation in cut-off marks or bonus marks/weightage in the selection process. 2) Exemption from Local Language Test: If you are applying for a permanent position in the same state as your apprenticeship, you are generally exempt from retaking the Local Language Test. 3) Industry Recognised Certificate: You will get an official Experience Certificate from the State Bank of India which will add value to your resume when you apply for jobs in private banks, NBFCs or financial Institutions.
