Syllabus & Topics to Know
In the apprenticeship walk-in procedure, there is generally no formal written test for Trade Apprentice candidates. But the basis is the knowledge of the ITI trade. If you are in the Fitter trade, know your fitting tools, tolerances, and basic metrology. As an Electrician, you should be familiar with home and industrial wiring, safety codes, and the basics of transformers. Mechanic (Diesel) and Mechanic (Motor Vehicle) Understand the components of diesel engines, fuel systems, and preventive maintenance. A preliminary technical interview may be required for Engineering Graduate Apprentice candidates. Mechanical engineers may expect questions on thermodynamics, machine design and manufacturing processes. Electrical engineers must be familiar with electrical machines, power systems, and circuit theory. The mining engineer should have knowledge of drilling and blasting, rock mechanics and mine ventilation. The expected topic knowledge is at the diploma level for Technician Apprentice (diploma holders)—slightly less depth than degree level but still practical and trade-specific.
NMDC Apprenticeship Future Roadmap
Getting an apprenticeship at a Navratna PSU creates more options than many people realise. The immediate benefit is the experience certificate. It makes you qualified to sit for competitive exams that require work experience in advance. The next phase of ITI qualified trade apprentice is to appear for SSC, RRB Technician Group C/D or state-level PSU technical assistant exams. If you appear for GATE-based PSU recruitment (BHEL, SAIL, CIL, and NMDC direct recruitment), NMDC counts your apprenticeship experience positively for graduate apprentices. Many PSUs include a clause to give positive consideration to candidates who have prior apprenticeships in the organisation during direct recruitment. It does not guarantee a job at NMDC but it certainly makes you a familiar and credible applicant. The Technician Apprentices course prepares for Junior Engineer tests conducted by BSNL, NTPC, Coal India and many state power boards.
Walk-In Interview – Tips to Prepare
PSU apprenticeship drives often focus on document verification during walk-in interviews, unlike formal tests. But some organisations do have a short engagement round. Here’s what you need to do to prepare properly. Before you leave home, make sure all your original paperwork is in excellent shape. Keep them in a folder, not loose. Arrange them as: Photo ID, age proof, qualification certificates, and caste certificate. Second, complete your online portal registration (apprenticeshipindia.org or nats.education.gov.in) a minimum of 2 to 3 days before your interview date. Keep a printout of the registration acknowledgement. Third, know the essentials of your ITI trade or engineering field. Some centres include a few questions about trade within the interaction, particularly for engineering apprentices. If you are an electrical or mechanical engineer, review basic topics such as machine drawing, motor functioning, and safety procedures. Fourth, be at the interview place before 9:00 AM. According to the notification, candidates need to register themselves at the site by 9:00 AM. If you arrive after that, you might miss the interview even if it begins at 10:00 AM. Fifth, dress formally. A formal appearance makes a good first impression, even if it is a walk-in interview at an industrial site.
